Chinese Silk

Pashmina silk is undeniably one of the hottest must-have accessories today. For centuries now, silk has always been associated with nobility, status and high class elegance among the royalties in the East. Now, virtually everyone all over the globe dons the pashmina silk for added elegance and glamour.

Interwoven together, silk and pashmina create an intricate, beautiful masterpiece that is truly as soft as and more beguiling than the plain Pashmina shawls and scarves. Pashmina silk is a combination of silk and pashmina which give it a more satiny finish. Such a combination also makes the shawls stronger and more durable.

Some of the best pashmina silk are produced from Kashmir, India, which is the home of the mountain goat capra hircus. These goats live at an altitude of approximately 10,000 in the harsh temperate regions of the Himalayans. To insulate themselves from the cold, these goats produce fine, soft hair in their underbellies which are culled to make the finest wool in the world. From this fine fleece, women, artisans and craftsmen make the most beautiful pashmina silk on earth.

Pashmina silk is available in many different colors. These shawls can be worn in any occasion. Usually though, pashmina silk comes in shades of pastel such as peach and silver gray, cream, light blue and silver grey although they are also available in bright and brilliant shades such as Royal Blue, burgundy and black with red tassels, among others.

What is known as pashmina can actually be an accessory that is composed of pure pashmina or a blend of pashmina and silk. The composition of the pashmina may vary, but usually the most common blend is 70% pashmina wool and 30% silk. A typical pashmina shawl will measure about 36″x80″, a wrap/stole is about 28″x80″, and a scarf/muffler will be around 12″x60″.

Like the other forms of pashmina, pashmina silk shawls can be used in different ways. Some prefer to drape it around their bridal dress, others use it to cover their heads while others even use it as prayer shawls. It can be used anywhere, anytime, in all types of other. No wonder, indeed, that pashmina silk is the most sought-after shawl in the world.

Silk has always been a highly valued commodity. In the olden days in China, silk was revered so much that it was even used as a form of currency! Silk is made from the cocoons of silkworms which are unraveled until they become one continuous thread. These threads are woven together to produce the beautiful fabric we know as silk. Silk is thought to originate in China as an invention of a Chinese empress. Because of its popular demand, silk became a major commodity. Eventually, silk came to be associated with luxury and wealth. Unlike the olden days, however, silk is available to almost everybody, not just to the very rich or royalty. Despite its high demand however, silk still manages to retain the allure and the sophistication that only a luxurious fabric can rightly provide.
