Today, fashion scarves are made from a variety of fabrics, from heavy wools to fine silks, in a variety of designs from patterned to plain.  If made from silk or rayon they possess an elegant fluid movement since they are lightweight.  If made from cotton or wool they make a slightly heavier scarf which has more structure.

Scarves come in many shapes and sizes and many are designed for specific uses from shawls and wraps to bandanas and smart cravats.  They can be tied, knotted or pinned with a piece of jewellery and worn in a numerous ways.  They are a truly versatile and useful accessory enabling a subtle accent or a bold pattern or colour block to be added to an outfit.

A bold and beautiful scarf can add a splash of colour or a little flair to an otherwise plain-looking or simple wardrobe, and can add a touch of softness and femininity to a suit.   Scarves are totally versatile and there will be a style and colour that can be found to complement any outfit.

Oblong scarves are the best alternative if you want to have minimum fuss but maximum style impact.  They can either be worn inside a jacket or draped around the shoulders.  Petite women should avoid wearing very long and oversized scarves such as full-size pashminas since these can swamp.  Long and lean scarves look best on larger figures since they create a slimming effect making the body look taller and slimmer.  For those with short necks, however, it is best not to tie scarves directly under your chin.

By choosing the right style for your outfit and colour shade for your skin tone, a simple and inexpensive scarf can ensure that not only is your look enhanced but also that your wardrobe becomes even more versatile.
