Teens around the world are sporting emo haircuts. They are seen as an expression of individuality and personal identity. The styles are indeed very creative but it is entirely up to the observer how each emo style is interpreted.
The term ‘emo’ has been coined from the word ‘emotional’ which refers to the 1980′s punk era of ‘emotive hardcore’ music. The haircuts have evolved over time, culminating in the trendy look we know as emo haircuts today. Any haircut that is colourful and perhaps a touch ostentatious can be classed as an emo style although some emo fundamentalists may want to apply strict rules as to what can be classified as emo and what can’t.
It is quite difficult to pinpoint what exactly an emo haircut is since they come in a variety of forms. But with a little bit of careful study, it will soon be noticed that emo haircuts to share some common elements and themes. Perhaps the most obvious is the wearing of fringes or bangs. Emo fringes differ quite markedly from the ordinary types worn for a conservative appearance. Emo fringes are very often long enough to meet the wearer’s lips but are usually swept to one side perhaps obscuring one eye.
Jet black is a colour that features predominantly in emo haircuts but any other bright or bold colour can be basis of the emo look. Many emo haircuts are not just a single colour and highlights are also a very common feature. Highlights are usually in striking contrast to the basic colour, with primary colours such as red, blue and yellow being very popular.
Emo haircuts are often misinterpreted by those who do not understand emo culture. Emo boys and girls try to create haircuts that are a reflection of their own emotions or feelings. The styles often express a myriad of concepts and identities pent up within the individual but with a manifestation that might appear messy or rebellious to the onlooker. The emo haircut deliberately attempts to shun conservatism and instead tries to be non conformist, adventurous and modern.
Emo haircuts can be worn long or short and by both boys and girls. I is also a matter of personal choice whether the style is formed with styling agents like gels and sprays or whether brushing alone is enough to create the desired look. The idea of the emo haircut is individuality and the emo boy or girl will go to any length to achieve this through their haircut.
