I recently had the frame for supporting the clutch cable & pedal on my 1998 VW Polo breaking.?
This is the same frame or bracket that has the brake switch mounted on it. It broke on the clutch pedal side. I managed to remove it but while I was fiddling with the frame(trying to remove it) a compression spring just fell of fromsomewhere. Am battling to find out from where the spring came. Has anyone ever seen this spring in Polos? Where does it fit? This spring is about 100mm in length & has 2 objects mounted inside it that run thru it on either side & also press into one another.This is a compression spring of about 40mm diameter.Has anyone done this job before? Advise?

Maybe i’ve misunderstood but this sounds similar to a problem common on Polo GTI’s (6n2 models).
VW replaced my pedal box free of charge because of this issue. Check out this thread for some more info:
